Every Sip
Has a story

Skip Edgemond and Jamie McClellan met while students at The University of California at Davis. Both swam for the Cal Aggies. Neither ever imagined they’d open a winery (Skip doesn’t even like wine, but Jamie loves it enough for both of them!). The property was intended to be a place to relocate GreenWorks Landscaping & Wholesale business, but the historic Manor House and gently rolling fields were too special not to be shared with the public.

A friend of Skip’s suggested they make it a winery — Jamie agreed, and here they are! When they aren’t planning more enhancements to Fleetwood’s evolution, Skip and Jamie enjoy spending time with their three adult children and spoiling their two beloved pit bull rescues.

Landscaping + Gardens

We created Fleetwood as a tranquil oasis where you can experience a sophisticated selection of global wines and locally sourced cuisine, but also gather, unwind, and truly relax in a breathtaking setting. Settle back in an Adirondack with a bottle, dance to live music on the patio, sip solo with your laptop in the tasting room, or take a progressive tasting through our historic 200+ year old Manor House. Be social. Be solitary. Be active. Be relaxed. It’s our hope that while you’re here at Fleetwood, above all else, you’ll be happy.

The Manor House

Fleetwood-Story-ManorHouse

The home was built around 1765 by William Ellzey, a prominent lawyer and gentleman farmer. Ellzey, along with some friends, campaigned to promote Virginian wine and even had a contest to determine who could produce the best wine. No winner was named; politics and a revolution got in the way. Today the space has been beautifully renovated and brought into the 21st century while maintaining its historic integrity.

We offer tours of this historic space on Sundays. We hope you’ll come out and see it for yourself!

Fleetwood’s history

Fleetwood-Story-History-1

Fleetwood’s Manor House was built around 1765 and served as a family home for over 200 years. In the late 1970s it was converted into a sheep farm/bed & breakfast for a time, then evolved into a luxury rental property. Skip and Jamie purchased the estate in 2016 intending to use it to expand their sister company, GreenWorks Landscaping – but quickly realized it was a winery at heart. They set out to design it so they could share it with others.

Fleetwood-Story-History-2

The first space created was, fittingly for a winery, the Tasting Room. Then, wanting to host milestone events and weddings, Skip and Jamie built the Grand Terrace. The space was originally open air, but feedback suggested climate control was important, so doors were added and the space can now operate regardless of weather. The Loft was the most recent addition to the property, designed to accommodate winter weddings and events while allowing the Tasting Room to remain open to the public.

More is sure to come as Skip and Jamie continue to ask themselves, the Fleetwood team, and their guests what’s next in the evolution of this special space.

Our commitment
to an Elevated Experience

Fleetwood-Story-Commitment

When we set out to design Fleetwood, we did it deliberately, thoughtfully, and with the intention of creating a truly unique garden winery experience. We started with the selection of wines that are not all produced on our soil – some wines have been produced exclusively for us, and others we simply love and wish to share with our guests. We designed the grounds to feel like an escape right in the middle of busy northern Virginia. We want you to come and breathe a little deeper as you pass though the stone archway and set your sights on the lush gardens and rows of vineyards. We want you to come for incredible food and wine. We want you to come for the live music, trivia night, or the camaraderie. Whatever you come for, we hope you find a peace and tranquility.
